Brooks' response

I had to send Dr. Brooks an e-mail, here's what I got back:

I do have some RFID equipment. If possible, I would appreciate
looking to see if there is a way to use the equipment that I
have.

Also, rather than my just accepting your statement that RFID
is the "best" solution, I really need a written justification
that is convincing as to why it is best, how you define best,
etc.

In the future, you will need paper trails justifying these
types of decisions. I think it would be a good idea to
get used to the concept now. But, this can wait until
we define concretely what you are doing. First we get
the architecture and interfaces defined, then we start
looking at how we will do it.

No. I have an account that I can use to pay for this, but it is
my own account. Every penny spent hurts, but I want a good
solution. I am willing to pay what we need and will find cash to
pay for the right solution. (Did I mention that every penny I spend
will hurt?)

Just convince me that you have looked for the right solution
and you are not wasting my money.
